Yunis Abdelhamid has been linked with a move away from Reims and could be joining up with international colleague Medhi Benatia in Qatar this summer.
The future of Abdelhamid is still up in the air as he’s yet to sign a new contract, set to expire next summer. The 31-year-old played more minutes than any single outfield player in Ligue 1 this season and was key in Reims’ impressive comeback to the French top-flight, finishing eighth on the table.
According to France Football, Abdelhamid has caught the eye of Al-Duhail’s manager Rui Faria, who already has Morocco captain Medhi Benatia leading his defense. With the two centre-backs currently preparing for Africa Cup of Nations together, we could perhaps see them joining forces after the tournament in Egypt. And with the increasing numbers of Moroccan players leaving Europe for Gulf leagues, no one would be surprised.
