Botola 18/19: Struggle for the debutants

The Botola is finally upon us again after a long summer break. Maghrib Foot are proud to give you a team-to-team preview ahead of the 62nd season in Morocco and predict how the clubs will fare.

Full name: Club Athletic Youssoufia Berrechid (CAYB)
Founded:
1927
Stadium: Stade Municipal de Berrechid (5000)
Manager:
Said Seddiki
Position last season:
2nd in Elite 2 (promoted)

Just like last season with Rapide Oued Zem, we will again have a newcomer in the Botola. Youssoufia Berrechid have never been in the Moroccan top flight and are eager to begin their first ever campaign among the very best. It was a nervy finish to the Elite 2 when they achieved promotion, finishing in second place, only ahead of Raja Beni Mellal on goal difference.

There is no doubt that this is going to be an historic season for CAYB, but question is if they are ready for this experience. We saw Racing Casablanca last year with a team that was nowhere near good enough. We are getting a similar feeling here, especially considering the transfer window they’ve had. Madou Dembelé from AS Salé could be alright, but is it enough? With that being said, Said Seddiki’s men is probably the side we know the least about heading into this season, so it’s certainly going to be interesting to see how they will get on. Especially looking at their extremely tough opening schedule, playing HUSA, WAC, RCA, FUS and FAR in the first five rounds.

Prediction: 16th (relegation)
