Oussama Idrissi have been on fire since joining AZ Alkmaar in January and hopes to earn a call-up to the Dutch national team.
Although he has Moroccan parents and are still eligible to represent the Atlas Lions, the 22-year-old reveals that he dreams of making the step up to the “Oranje” senior national team, after already playing several games for the Under 21’s. He admits that it might be too soon as of yet, but the goal is clear.
“I dont think I’m ready yet”, he told Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf. “I still need to score more goals and and become an important player for AZ, before I can say that I deserve to play for Oranje. To play for the Dutch national team is my ambition, but I will have to keep on working hard for that to happen.”
But if he continues in the same style as he has the last weeks, a call-up from Ronald Koeman can not be far away. Since joining AZ from Groningen in January, Idrissi has racked up five goals and six assists in only nine games for the “Cheeseheads”.
